State Authorization: South Georgia State College is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). Membership with NC-SARA allows distance education (courses or programs) offered by South Georgia State College to be recognized in other states outside of Georgia without having to seek permission from each individual state. Currently, no academic programs offered by SGSC requiring state licensure or certification are available via distance education (fully online).

Notification: Academic programs at South Georgia State College are designed to prepare students to apply for licensure or certification within the state of Georgia. The following programs at South Georgia State College lead to professional licensure: 

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN),
  • LPN-RN Bridge Program (ASN),
  • Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education (ELE/SPED)

Each U.S. state or territory defines its own requirements for licensing and/or certification in professional fields. If a student is planning to become licensed or certified in another state or territory, the student should contact the licensing agency in the state or territory chosen by the student to determine what the licensing or certification.

South Georgia State College has not made a determination that its curriculum meets educational requirements for licensure or certification in all states outside of Georgia.

Student Relocation: If you are a student enrolled in a distance education (fully online) course and/or program offered by South Georgia State College and choose to relocate outside the state of Georgia, you need to ensure that SGSC has your most current physical address and contact information on file by logging into Banner Web. South Georgia State College must be authorized to deliver distance education courses or programs in the state to which you have relocated. Enrolling in a distance education course and/or program with SGSC while residing in the state of Georgia and subsequently relocating to another state can have an adverse impact on eligibility for financial aid and/or completion of the distance education courses and/or programs offered by South Georgia State College. Currently, no academic programs offered by SGSC requiring state licensure or certification are available via distance education (fully online).

Here’s what should matter to students: Depending on the state, state licensing or certification boards may require additional approval. South Georgia State College highly recommends that, prior to enrolling in the program, a prospective student review the academic program requirements and the licensing and/or certification requirements of the selected state licensing or certification board where the student intends to receive a state license or certification. Please note that state laws, policies, and regulations may change over time, which may affect the academic program’s ability to meet education requirements for licensure or certification.

Prospective and/or currently enrolled students should contact the program coordinator to verify the program actually meets the requirements for the state in which he or she intends to practice.
