SGSC Emergency Relief ACT - HEERF III

Higher Education Emergency Relief III (HEER III) Fund Information

SGSC has been authorized to award HEERF III funds to any enrolled students based on a tiered model giving priority to students with exceptional need.  The expected family contribution (EFC) for each student will be used to determine need. The table below is an illustration of how we would like to award students.

Using the model above, there would be approximately 800 full time students that would receive a grant ranging from $1,200 - $1,800 depending on their EFC for a total of $1,365,000.  There are approximately 420 part time students that would receive a grant ranging from $800 - $1,200 depending on their EFC for a total of $466,500.  The grand total for these grants would be $1,831,500.  We would like to follow this same model for awarding grants to students in the spring 2022 semester for an estimated total of $1,648,350.  We would also like to provide student’s the option to apply these grants directly to the student’s account if they provide electronic or written consent.

The remaining balance of HEERF III Student Grant funds totaling $655,433 would be used to provide grants to students who do not meet the above criteria, but have a financial need for costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, or childcare. These students will be asked to self-identify and complete a professional judgement appeal. If the student is determined to be eligible, the student will be awarded within the range of $800 - $1,800 depending on the circumstances.

SGSC CRRSAA ACT - HEERF II

Higher Education Emergency Relief II (HEER II) Fund Information

You may have heard that the federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) provided financial resources to colleges and universities. The resources available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief II (HEER II) Fund allow universities to distribute grants to students in need to cover any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus.

SGSC has received approval to award funds to students based on a tiered model giving priority to students with exceptional need. The estimated family contribution (EFC) for each student will be used to determine need. The table below is an illustration of how we would like to award students.

Using the model above, there would be 661 full time students that would receive a grant ranging from $600 - $1,000 depending on their EFC for a total of $608,200. There are 479 part time students that would receive a grant ranging from $300 - $800 depending on their EFC for a total of $341,100. The grand total for these grants would be $949,300.

The remaining balance of HEERF II Student Grant funds totaling $1,211,369 would be used to provide grants to students who do not meet the above criteria, but have a financial need for costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, or childcare. These students will be asked to self-identify and complete a professional judgement appeal. If the student is determined to be eligible, the student will be awarded within the range of $300 - $1,000 depending on the circumstances.  Students must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents to receive Relief Grant Funds.

April 8, 2021

South Georgia State College signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and will use no less than 50 percent of the funds received CRRSAA Act to provide Emergency Relief Grants to students.

South Georgia State College was awarded $1,819,569 by the U. S, Department of Education pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Relief Grants to Students.

As of the date of this report, SGSC has awarded and distributed $946,600 in Emergency Relief Grants distributed to 1136 students under the CRRSAA Act.

We estimated a total of approximately 1,350 students at South Georgia State College were enrolled in face-to-face courses and could be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under  the CRRSAA Act.

South Georgia State College is using the following method to award Emergency Cares Act grant funds to students:

SGSC has received approval to award funds to students based on a tiered model giving priority to students with exceptional need. The estimated family contribution (EFC) for each student will be used to determine need. The table below is an illustration of how we would like to award students.

EFC Full Time Students Amount of Grant Total Part Time Students Amount of Grant Total
0 343 $1,000 $343,000 256 $800 $204,800
1-4999 200 $900 $180,000 130 $700 $91,000
5000-9999 72 $800 $57,600 58 $600 $34,800
10000-14999 46 $600 $27,600 35 $300 $10,500
TOTALS 661   $608,200 479   $341,100

Using the model above, there would be 661 full time students that would receive a grant ranging from $600 - $1,000 depending on their EFC for a total of $608,200. There are 479 part time students that would receive a grant ranging from $300 - $800 depending on their EFC for a total of $341,100. The grand total for these grants would be $949,300.

The remaining balance of HEERF II Student Grant funds totaling $262,069 would be used to provide grants to students who do not meet the above criteria, but have a financial need for costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, or childcare. These students will be asked to self-identify and complete a professional judgement appeal. If the student is determined to be eligible, the student will be awarded within the range of $300 - $1,000 depending on the circumstances.  Students must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents to receive Relief Grant Funds
