What is the deadline to apply for financial aid?
Our priority deadlines are:
- Fall – May 15
- Spring – October 15
- Summer – March 15
How do I apply for financial aid?
- New Student:
- Create Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID at fsaid.gov.
- Parents of Dependent student also need to create FSA ID.
- Complete FAFSA at fafsa.gov.
- Start checking your email approximately in 2-3 days after FAFSA submission for any notification from the SGSC financial aid office.
- Create Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID at fsaid.gov.
- Returning Student:
- Retrieve your FSA ID. Contact 800-433-3243 for assistance with your FSA ID.
- Renew FAFSA at fafsa.gov.
- Start checking your email approximately in 2-3 days after FAFSA submission for any notification from the SGSC financial aid office.
What additional documents must be provided to apply for federal financial aid?
Additional documentation is only necessary if you are selected for verification. We will notified you by email if additional documentation is required. All required documents are specified and requested through the SGSC verification portal.
How can I check the status of my financial aid?
Visit www.sgsc.edu, click on "QUICKLINKS" at the top of the page then on "Banner Web".
- Log into Banner Web - select Student and Financial Aid tab.
- Next, select “Financial Aid”.
- Then, select “My overall Status of Financial Aid”.
- Select your aid year from the drop down box. Click “Submit”.
- Review your overall financial aid status.
How long does it take to process my financial aid?
Once we receive the FAFSA:
- If pulled for verification, the process takes approximately 2-4 weeks after all documentation requested is provided.
- If not pulled for verification, the process takes approximately 5-10 days.
How will I know that I have financial aid?
An award notification is sent by email to the student’s SGSC email address and the personal email address we have on file with instructions on how to view their financial aid and how to accept awards.

- Log into Banner Web - select Student and Financial Aid tab.
- Next select Financial Aid.
- Then select Award.
- Now select Award for Aid Year.
- Select your aid year from the drop down box. Click Submit. Click on the "Terms and Conditions" tab and review the information. Scroll down to the end of the page and click on "Click here to Accept the Terms and Conditions".
- Click on the “Accept Award Offer” tab.
- Review your award and select “Accept” or “Decline” for each offer. Click “Submit".
How many hours must I take to be considered a full-time student?
A full-time student is defined as a student that is enrolled for at least 12 credit hours even during summer semester.
How can I see the amount I owe after my financial aid has paid?
- Visit www.sgsc.edu,
- Select current student,
- tuition and fees,
- online payment portal (Touchnet).

Are there extra steps to receive a loan?
We offer student loans to students during the awarding process. The student can visit www.sgsc.edu, click on “My SGSC” at the top of the page then on “Banner Web”. Log into Banner Web - select Student and Financial Aid tab.
- Next select Financial Aid.
- Then select Award.
- Now select Award for Aid Year.
- Select your aid year from the drop down box. Click Submit. Click on the "Terms and Conditions" tab and review the information. Scroll down to the end of the page and click on "Click here to Accept the Terms and Conditions".
- Click on the “Accept Award Offer” tab.
- Review your award and select “Accept” or “Decline” for each offer. Click “Submit".
You will also need to make sure that you complete the master promissory note and entrance loan counseling at www.studentaid.gov.
Parents also have the option of completing a PLUS Loan as well.
How many hours must I be enrolled to receive a loan?
You must be enrolled with at least six credit hours each term to receive a Direct Student Loan even during summer semester.
How do I apply for educational scholarships?
Scholarships at SGSC are provided through both the South Georgia State College Foundation and the James M. Dye Foundation. If interested you may apply:

How do I apply for the Hope Scholarship?
Complete this form to initiate a HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship review if you are not currently receiving the scholarship at SGSC or if you are a transfer student and received HOPE/Zell Miller at your previous institution prior to your enrollment at SGSC.

How do I appeal the loss of my financial aid for failure to meet satisfactory academic progress?

What is the status of my Financial Aid Appeal decision?
Financial Aid Appeal decisions are made by the Financial Aid Appeal Committee. The committee will meet periodically and make the determination. Once the decision has been made, you will receive a letter by mail to the mailing address that is in the SGSC information system.
When will I receive my refund?
Initially, refunds normally go out about the 4th week of the semester. Refunds are processed through our business department. You will receive your refund either by direct deposit to your bank account or by paper check to the address on your Banner Web. To sign up for direct deposit, visit The Online Payment Portal (Touchnet). The SGSC Business Department posts a refund calendar on the website each semester.
What if I need financial help with books?
Any excess financial aid funds can be used to purchase books in the SGSC bookstore. You can also check with the library on campus to see if the book that you need is for rent. If not, then check with the bookstore for used books which may be more affordable.
Who is my Financial Aid Advisor?

What year's income should I enter on the FAFSA?
For the 2018-2019 financial aid year, use the 2016 income tax information.
How can I apply for an adjustment to my financial aid if my income or family situation has changed since 2018?
Email the financial aid office for assistance at www.finaid@sgsc.edu.
