Rines signs with Thomas University

Posted on Apr 22, 2014

TJ Rines, a member of South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team, has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga.

Rines, a 5’10” redshirt freshman from Clyo, Ga., averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game off the bench during the 2013-2014 season.  He also averaged 74.5 percent from the free-throw line.

“Playing at the next level has always been one of my goals,” said Rines.  “I feel blessed to have this opportunity.”

Head coach Cory Baldwin praised Rines’ work ethic despite Rines being a redshirt his first year on campus.

“TJ used his redshirt year the way he was supposed to, and that was to get stronger and better,” he said.  “He worked extremely hard, and I’m excited and proud for him.”

Rines is the first player from last season’s team to sign with a four-year college or university.  Thirty-one of Baldwin’s players have signed letters of intent to play at the next level since the program began in 2009.
