Hawks Soccer Signs Standouts

South Georgia State College’s women’s soccer announced the signing of several standouts this week.  Chelsea Green (Cayman Islands), Hailey Joseph (Spain Park High School/Hoover, Ala.), Natalie Seay (Fairhope High School/Fairhope, Ala.), and Kamaria Whittaker (Cayman Islands) headline this week’s additions to the three-time GCAA finalist freshman class. 

Green earned the “Golden Boot” as the leading scorer in CONCACAF’s first ever U-15 championship and was named to the tournament’s “Best XI.” Green continued her success as top scorer in the Cayman’s girls league and added a pair of goals as the Cayman Islands finished second in their qualification group in this past spring’s U-17 CONCACAF Tournament. Her mother Jeannie Green and the Cayman Islands FA have been instrumental in helping Green move on to college soccer.

In addition to her high school career, Joseph won three consecutive Alabama State Championships with Vestavia Hills SC, advancing as far as the USYSA Region III Quarterfinals in 2013 and 2014. She is thankful to her coaches, Luke Whittle (Vestavia Hills) and Coach Starr (Spain Park), for pushing her to become the player and person she has become.  She is also thankful for her family and friends, especially her mother, Mona Myers, for being by her side every step of the way as she made the decision to continue playing in college.

Seay participated in the Alabama High School All-Star Game as well as the Mobile-Baldwin Battle of the Bay with her Fairhope squad, coached by Kevin Watson. In addition, Seay’s Strike SC team coached by Geraldo Flores won an ASA League Championship in 2014. Her Gulf Coast Rangers FC team won the 2015 Publix SuperCup. Seay has the support of her parents, Neil and Misty Seay.

Whittaker represented her country as a winger at the U-17 level. Her Scholars International team won the U-15 Cayman FA Cup, and she also played for the Cayman Select side coached by William Medina. Whittaker has dual citizenship and resides with her mother Ophia Smith in Florida.

Two other student athletes, Tiasia Johnson (Savannah High School/Savannah, Ga.), and Anne-Chrysthine Benoit (Plantation, Fla.) signed to be dual sport athletes at SGSC this fall in soccer and cross country.

SGSC begins preseason Aug. 7 and will open the regular season Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. against Daytona (Fla.) State College on SGSC’s Douglas Campus.
