Connect Conference 2020

Students and staff representing the SGSC Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) had the opportunity to attend Connect Conference 2020 on February 29th at the University of Georgia in Athens. This annual program, hosted by the UGA LGBT Resource Center, focused on allyship, advocacy, education and community building.  The members of the SGSC delegation attended educational workshops and participated in identity and experienced-based caucus groups throughout the day.  The luncheon keynote speaker was Dr. Katie Acosta (faculty member at Georgia State) and her presentation was entitled “Marriage Equality Didn’t Fix Everything: LGBTQ Parenting Post Obergefell v. Hodges”.

During the evening prior to the conference, the group from SGSC enjoyed dinner in Athens and then attempted to break out of an escape room.  Though they were unsuccessful, they had fun!
