Our Student Athlete Commitment
The athletic program at SGSC is designed to be different from other programs in the nation. We know there is more to a successful athletic program than just winning games. Our program is designed to teach athletes the key elements that will make their current and future lives more successful. We do this in a family environment where we truly care about our Student Athlete’s personal, educational, as well as athletic needs.
The Men’s Basketball program is fully committed to the mission of the athletic program. In 15years as a basketball program, we have averaged 21 plus wins a season (325 wins total), won the GCAA Tournament Championship in 2022-23, 2020-21, and 2010-11. Also won the GCAA Regular Season Championship 2014-15, played in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2022-23, 2020-21, and 2010-11. The only GCAA team to win a NJCAA Tournament game since 2015-16 and only current head coach with a NJCAA tournament win as a head coach in the GCAA (2 wins total at Hutch for Coach Baldwin). SGSC has made the conference tournament all 14 years eligible while being nationally ranked in numerous defensive categories. Equally important, is the success of our student-athletes off the court. In the previous 15 years of the program’s existence, 110 student-athletes have moved on to continue their education at four-year institutions while playing basketball at the four-year level. Also, over the past 14 years, 94% of our basketball players have graduated with an Associate degree before moving on. In addition, we have had 7 NJCAA All-Americans (3 in a row 2 separate times) in just 15 seasons of competition and 14 NJCAA Academic All-Americans. We are very proud of our student-athletes while they are here but we know they will go on to accomplish much more–just like all of our student body strives to do.
