Three Rivers Symphony Winds performing at SGSC March 25

On Tuesday, March 25, the Three Rivers Symphony Winds will play at South Georgia State College’s McGouirk Auditorium inside Peterson Hall on the Douglas Campus at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public and free of charge.

The Three Rivers Symphony Winds is a community band based in Hazlehurst, Ga. Formed in January 2011, it boasts more than 50 members. The musicians are adults and students from surrounding counties, all dedicated to the idea that music is a life-long pursuit, not merely something to do as a youngster in school. Their ages range from 14 to more than 70, and they meet twice monthly in the band room at Jeff Davis High School. Several smaller groups specializing in jazz and chamber music have also been formed.

The group’s conductor is John Reed, long-time band director with the Jeff Davis County schools. Reed holds degrees from Florida State University and Troy University and has studied under Charles Carter, Carl Bjerregaard, John Long, Ralph Ford, Robert Barr, and William Revelli.

Mr. Reed has performed with numerous regional orchestras, including the Asheville Symphony, Spartanburg Symphony, Hendersonville Symphony, Valdosta Symphony, and the Big Bend Philharmonic in Tallahassee, Fla. He is also the cofounder and former music director of the Dublin Community Band.
