South Georgia State College announces Edith Sheffield Memorial Scholarship
Posted on Jan 21, 2014
South Georgia State College President, Dr. Virginia Carson, announced today that First National Bank of Coffee County has established a scholarship through the SGC Foundation to honor the memory of Edith Sheffield along with her many contributions and love for her community.
Ms. Walda Kight, Vice President for External Affairs, comments, “Prior to joining SGSC, I had the privilege of working with Edith. She loved helping others; thus, it is very fitting that now, through this scholarship, deserving students will receive financial assistance to obtain a college degree and pursue their goals and dreams.”
Edith attended South Georgia College before having a long and successful career in business. The scholarship is being set-up as a permanent, annual fund to provide full tuition and the cost of books for each recipient for fall and spring semester. FNBCC has committed to provide this on-going scholarship and annual support to SGSC, with the first award set for August 2014.
Dr. Carson adds, “I am very appreciative of FNBCC’s commitment to higher education and to SGSC. I humbly accept this gift and look forward to the many opportunities and future contributions the recipients can make in Ms. Sheffield’s name.”
