SGSC to Participate in Fraud Awareness Week

The University System of Georgia (USG) is a proud participant of International Fraud Awareness Week November 16-22, 2014. In support of this effort, South Georgia State College will be hosting activities to promote an ethical culture on our campus and to further prevent fraud.

This week is devoted to bringing awareness to fraud prevention and will reinforce the USG’s culture of recognizing the hard work of all employees, and promoting shared values of integrity, excellence, accountability, and responsibility. The theme for this year’s Fraud Awareness Week is “The SPIRIT of USG.” The activities planned will emphasize: Stewardship, Prevention, Integrity, Responsibility, Inspiration, and Trust.

This program is part of USG’s comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Program which includes ethics training, mandatory compliance training, assurance audits, consulting engagements, and an ethics and compliance reporting hotline.
  
Activities for the week include guest speakers from the Douglas and Waycross Police Departments, Information and Instructional Technology staff from both campuses, and the highlight of the week, a community forum on identity theft. The community is invited to attend the forum titled “Being Proactive Against Identity Theft: What We and You Can Do” which will be held on Monday, November 17th at 7:00 pm in McGouirk Auditorium in Peterson Hall on the Douglas Campus. The forum should last about an hour, and will cover useful tips on how to protect yourself from identity theft.

In addition to the planned activities on SGSC campuses, the Twitter handle @SpiritofUSG will post helpful hints and interesting facts regarding fraud and fraud prevention, and will also answer questions during the entire month of November.
