SGSC To Host Police Training Sessions

Posted on Feb 03, 2015

On Tuesday, February 3, and Thursday, February 5, South Georgia State College and the Douglas Police Department will be hosting a training course titled “Mental Health First Aid for Law Enforcement” upstairs in Engram Hall on the Douglas Campus. This course will begin at 8:00 am and last until 5:00 pm.

Later in the week, on Thursday and Friday, the Department of Natural Resources will be hosting an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response (ALERRT: Active Shooter) training session in Shannon Hall, where SGSC Campus Police are located. The trainees will be engaged in both classroom and practical exercises. ON day one of the exercise, the students will be wearing their uniform shirts and so will be clearly and easily distinguishable. On the second day of the training, however, they will not be wearing clothing that identifies them as law enforcement.

On these training days, the campus expects a multitude of law enforcement vehicles, and employees, students, and visitors should not be alarmed at the increase in security traffic.
