SGSC to Host Homecoming Weekend February 10th and 11th in Douglas

Posted on Feb 06, 2017

South Georgia State College is set to host a Homecoming Weekend on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th with several events planned for alumni, student-athletes, and Hawk fans from the campus and community.

The weekend begins with a free concert in the Wellness Center gym on the Douglas campus of SGSC. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community are invited to join us to hear Thomas Fountain. The doors open at 7:00 pm with the concert beginning at 8:00 pm. Fountain was born and raised in the mountains of North Georgia and won the Georgia Country Male Artist of the Year and the Georgia Overall Artist of the Year in 2014. The music he creates is country to the core and his soulful delivery with a vintage feel puts you in his story with every song he writes. He has a brand new single, “Sometimes God Whispers”, and is currently in the studio working on new music.

Saturday will be a day filled with SGSC athletic events. Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 am, the Hawks men’s and women’s swim teams will host the South Georgia Small College Championships in the Wellness Center indoor pool. The teams will honor the inaugural class of swimmers of South Georgia State College at this special event.

The Lady Hawks softball team and the Hawks baseball team provide an afternoon of action on the field. The Lady Hawks have games beginning at 1:00 pm at the SGSC softball fields. The Lady Hawks will honor SGSC nursing faculty and alumni. Alum Kathryn Dunn will throw out the first pitch. At Crider Field, the Hawks baseball team will play a double-header beginning at 1:00 pm. The first game will honor local law enforcement.

All events are free of charge. Make a weekend of it and be sure to stop by all of the events and support the current student-athletes at South Georgia State College. It will be a day of reconnecting with old friends, while also making new ones!
