South Georgia State College (SGSC) is pleased to announce the University System of Georgia Board of Regents at its March 2016 meeting approved a third bachelor’s degree for SGSC. A Bachelor of Science in Management degree will be available to students beginning fall semester, pending approval from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The degree is designed to develop business generalists who have the ability to enter the workforce with a strong understanding of sound management, financial, organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills. This goal is achieved through an interdisciplinary approach that centers on core management courses enhanced by relevant courses in the social sciences, humanities, and other business disciplines.

"Business is one of the top desired paths of study by current students at the College; thus, we are very pleased to be able to expand our academic offerings and enable students to complete this new four-year degree at SGSC," comments SGSC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rob Page.

The Bachelor of Science in Management is designed to target both traditional students and working adults who are in or aspiring to be in middle management roles or small business owners with multifaceted roles. The curriculum has been created to pair the management coursework with either organizational behavior or marketing.

The degree, to be offered on the Douglas Campus initially, is designed as a two-year completion program for students who have already earned an Associate of Science degree in Business or who have completed the necessary prerequisite courses.

In employment projections by occupational group from 2014-2024 U.S. Department of Labor statistics, management occupations were the highest paying group with a median annual wage of $97,230 in 2014. Furthermore, these occupations are expected to add 505,400 jobs, or grow 5.5 percent, over the next ten years.

SGSC President Dr. Virginia Carson states, “SGSC is committed to providing access to quality education for southeast Georgia, thereby enhancing the region’s economic vitality and quality of life while fulfilling the College’s mission. We look forward to what this new bachelor's degree will mean for our students as well as our business and industry partners.”
