Posted on Feb 16, 2015

The South Georgia State College Women’s Swim Team repeated their performance from 2014 by winning their second consecutive region XVII swim title. The Lady Hawks bested host team Darton and Thomas University Saturday in Albany. The Men’s Team finished second to Darton in the region competition.

Sophomore Megan Harding (Thomasville, GA) and freshmen Carolyn Ives (Carrollton, GA) were named Tournament Co-MVPs. Harding and Ives both won all three of their events to put the SGSC Women’s Team in the lead. Also winning multiple region titles in their events were Bonnie Brown (Hazlehurst, GA) in the 200 and 100 back stroke and Ryan Davis (Ochlocknee, GA) in the 1650 freestyle and the 200 fly.

Region champions in their respective events are Jordan Yarborough (Leesburg, GA) in the 200 fly, Austin Vines (Moultrie, GA) in the 100 back, Leeanne Bagaoisan (Bonnaire, GA) in the 400 individual medley, and Stephen Lewis (Lilburn, GA) in the 200 individual medley.

“I am excited for our Women’s Team to repeat as region champions and I’m very proud of our entire team for their showing at the meet,” commented Coach CM Jenkins. “We are now ready to begin the final phase of our season in preparation for nationals.”

The Hawks will travel to Buffalo, NY the first week in March to participate in the NJCAA National Swim Meet at Erie Community College.
