SGSC Sponsors Art Exhibit And Reception Featuring The Artwork Of Jerry Luke

South Georgia State College (SGSC) is pleased to announce an art exhibit and reception showcasing the works of Jerry Luke. The artwork is on display in the Peterson Hall Art Gallery on the Douglas Campus until Thursday, Dec. 8 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. A meet-and-greet reception will be held in the art gallery on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. Community members, as well as SGSC faculty, staff, and students, are invited to attend this free event.
A native of Blackshear, Ga., Luke is one of our region’s most talented artists. He earned a master’s degree in painting from the University of Georgia in the 1970s under Lamar Dodd. He previously taught art at Savannah State University (SSU), Brewton-Parker College, and the former Waycross College. Now retired, Luke currently teaches art appreciation part-time at SGSC in Douglas. He has had many one-man shows including with GAIHA at the Ritz in Brunswick, Ga., Gallery S.P.A.C.E. in Savannah, Ga., and the art gallery of SSU. His work is in public collections including the Okefenokee Heritage Center and SSU.
Luke’s artwork has received several first-place awards, among them the Savannah Art Association, the Effingham Council for the Arts, and the Okefenokee Heritage Center. He now resides in Brunswick, paints full-time, teaches art classes in the community and is a founding member of the Brunswick Art Cooperative.
