The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks softball team went into their games against Darton State College April 3 in Albany with the plan to retain their number one spot in the GCAA standings. After the dust had settled, the Lady Hawks (23-6, 7-1) walked away with two wins that caused Darton to fall to fifth place in conference play. After a hard fought game one, SGSC defeated Darton by a score of 9-7 and then followed with a close 5-4 victory to end the two-game series.

The first game ended in dramatic fashion as the Lady Hawks and the Lady Cavaliers were tied at the end of the fifth. Darton had a runner on base when SGSC shortstop Summer Lee pulled an impressive unassisted double play. Lee caught the ball and tagged a runner to put a stop to a potential score. As the Lady Hawks came up to bat, Megan Farmer walked to the plate, and with one good, clean swing homered, bringing the score to a two run lead for SGSC. Kimberly Gentry got it done in the circle, pitching four shutout innings with three strikeouts, one walk, and four hits.

The Lady Cavaliers grabbed the early lead in game two by scoring three runs in the first inning. The Lady Hawks took the lead for good in the fifth on a two-run double by Farmer and a two-run homer by Makayla Clark. Whitney Oliver put together a nice outing by giving up just two hits, allowing no earned runs, walking none and striking out four during her seven innings of work.
