SGSC’s swimmer surpasses team records at Berry College Invitational meet

Posted on Nov 20, 2017

South Georgia State College’s swim teams headed north this weekend to participate in their first big Invitational meet. The team traveled to Rome, Georgia to the Berry College two-day meet. The men improved their record to 5-1 on the season by beating host Berry but falling to NAIA powerhouse Savannah College Art and Design.  SGSC’s women finished third to SCAD and Berry.

“This meet was much faster than most of our meets, and I am very pleased with our team for holding their own with two very competitive four year swim programs,” commented Head Coach CM Jenkins. “Our swimmers won several events and established some new school records against the much tougher competition.”

Sophomore captain Andrew Brown won both the 50 yard and 200 yard breaststroke events and also led the Hawks 400 medley relay team to win at the meet. Freshmen Ryan Buczkowski, Jackson Bloom and Sophomore Zac Elz joined Brown on the relay. Freshmen distance swimmer Daniel Johnson placed second in the 500 yard freestyle and broke SGSC’s oldest team record with a time of 4:54.23. Johnson also broke the team’s 1000 yard free record with a time of 10:10.26.

The Hawks swimmers will be off for Thanksgiving Day holidays and back in action the following week at the SCAD Invitational in Savannah.
