SGSC Rolls To 92-70 Win Over FSCJ

Posted on Dec 16, 2018

As he was building the 2018 non-conference schedule, Cory Baldwin made it a priority to book tougher opponents in order to prepare South Georgia State College basketball for its GCAA conference schedule.

The Hawks have finished their non-conference slate at 8-6, and Baldwin believes his scheduling strategy is starting to pay off. The biggest payoff to date came Saturday afternoon when SGSC rolled to a 92-70 win at home against Florida State College-Jacksonville. Just six weeks ago, the two teams sent their Nov. 3 game in Jacksonville into overtime with SGSC winning 79-75.

“I would say the biggest difference between Saturday’s game and when we played them in Jacksonville is our tough non-conference schedule,” said Baldwin. “I believe we’ve gotten better as a team because of that.”

The Hawks were led Saturday by Keyshaun Street who finished with 25 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Skyler Baggs had 16 points, while Charles Botchway continued his selfless play with 15 points and seven assists.

SGSC will enjoy the holiday break and return to action Wednesday, Jan. 2 in an exhibition game against New Rock Prep. The meat of the Hawks’ schedule begins Jan. 5 when they host Central Georgia Tech in the conference opener.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
