The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks softball team will be playing in the GCAA Region 17 tournament for the first time in eight years. This year’s region tournament will be held at Strong Rock Christian Academy in Locust Grove, GA, from April 23-25.

This year’s Lady Hawks are a young team, with six of the nine starters being freshmen. They may be young, but they know their way around the field: freshmen pitchers Samantha Hays, Kimberly Gentry, and Whitney Oliver have posted a combined 2.42 ERA in 104 innings pitched. Of those 104 innings, Whitney Oliver pitched 38 with 32 strikeouts.

The sophomore Lady Hawks have also had an impressive season: first baseman CeeJay Ham has led the team during the conference season hitting cleanup posting a .400 batting average, and also has a .985 fielding percentage.

The Lady Hawks are currently in fifth place out of the ten teams competing in GCAA Region 17 and are awaiting their seeding for the weekend tournament. Please come out and support the Lady Hawks as they strive to win a conference title.
