Posted on Feb 01, 2017

Jordan Young hit two free throws in the final 22 seconds to help the South Georgia State College Hawks hold on for a 72-70 win over the South Georgia Tech Jets Wednesday night.

Young made his first free throw with 22.7 seconds remaining in the game to give the Hawks (15-5, 4-3) a 71-68 lead. Following a Jets basket, Young was fouled again with 1.5 seconds left and made 1-of-2 free throws to give the Hawks their final two-point lead.

“Jordan was huge tonight,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “It was probably his best game. He made some big free throws for us and was strong on the boards.”

Young finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and two assists.

O’Showen Williams led all scorers with a complete game of 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

It was a defensive struggle for a majority of the first half. The teams combined to score a total of 37 points in the first 12 minutes, and the Hawks outscored the Jets 18-4 over the final 7:48 to take a 34-25 lead into the locker room.

The Hawks begin a two-game road trip Feb. 4 against Atlanta Metro before returning home Feb. 15 to play Central Georgia Tech. Tip for the Feb. 15 game is set for 7 p.m.
