SGSC Hawks Baseball record increases to 15-2 after doubleheader win over Ed Waters JV

The South Georgia State College Hawks had all cylinders firing on offense Monday, March 8, 2021, winning big over Ed Waters JV in a doubleheader, 9-1 in game one and 16-2 in game two.
South Georgia State got things started in the first inning when Mack Williams singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. The Hawks notched four runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by South Georgia State was led by Cole Smith with two RBIs and Mason Spivey and Williams with one RBI each in the inning.
Clayton Smith led the Hawks with two hits in four at-bats. Logan Roberts, Carlos Hernandez, Cole Smith, Spivey and Williams each contributed one hit each. Cole Smith, Spivey and Hernandez were credited with doubles in the game. Roberts lead in stolen bases with two, followed by Cole Smith, Clayton Smith and Williams with one.
Mason Ashby started the game on the mound for the Hawks. Ashby allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Hayden Hall earned the win for South Georgia State. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on four hits. Mikah Gustavson and Caden Sconyers entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Tyler Deloach was an RBI machine in game two, driving in five on two hits to lead the Hawks past Ed Waters JV 16-2 in a five innings. Deloach drove in runs on a grand slam in the second and a walk in the fourth.
Ed Waters JV got on the board in the first inning as a wild pitch allowed one run to score. In the bottom of the first inning, the Hawks tied things up at one when Matt Warren's sac fly scored one run, After Ed Waters JV scored one run in the top of the fourth, South Georgia State answered when Deloach drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Hawks pulled away for good with eight runs in the second inning. South Georgia State scored on a stolen base during Hunter Spence's at bat. Then Spence singled, driving in one. Warren singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Deloach homered on a 1-0 count, scoring four runs.
South Georgia State tallied 14 hits in the game. Cole Smith and Warren led with three hits each, and Deloach had two for the Hawks. Jared Martin, Hunter Goff, Brandon Redd, Hunter Spence, Logan Roberts and Noah Braddy each had one hit.
Brock Lewis earned the victory on the hill for South Georgia State. Lewis allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking zero. Austyn Wright threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Sophomore first baseman Tyler Deloach from Statesboro, Ga., hit a grand slam in Monday’s victory over Ed Waters JV.
