SGSC Clinches #4 Seed With Win Over Albany Tech
Posted on Mar 01, 2017
The South Georgia State College Hawks honored seven sophomores Wednesday night during Sophomore Night and clinched at least the #4 seed in the upcoming GCAA Conference Tournament with an 88-78 win over the Albany Tech Titans.
“Tonight’s win was all about pushing the ball, sharing the ball, and playing a lot of guys,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “We had a great crowd and atmosphere for Sophomore Night, and these guys (sophomores) deserved it.”
Zaquavian Smith had a complete game for the Hawks (21-8, 9-6) with 19 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. Shaquille Williams finished with 15 points - all three-pointers. Jordan Young had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while O’Showen Williams had 11 points, eight assists, and two steals.
By clinching the #4 seed, the Hawks will host a first round game in next week’s conference tournament. There’s a possibility of finishing the regular season as the #3 seed, but the Hawks would need help. They would have to win Saturday at South Georgia Tech, and Central Georgia Tech would have to lose to Albany Tech on Saturday.
Final information about the GCAA Tournament will be released next week.
