Rachard Lofton Named SGSC Assistant Basketball Coach

Posted on Nov 03, 2017

Cory Baldwin, head men’s basketball coach at South Georgia State College (SGSC), has announced the return of Rachard Lofton to serve as one of SGSC’s assistant basketball coaches.

“I am excited for Rachard. He has wanted to get into college coaching, and the timing, need, and opportunity were all perfect,” said Baldwin. “He will help our student athletes see that their goals are obtainable, because he reached his goals when he was a player here, too. Rachard is extremely energetic, professional, and positive about his alma mater, which can help us all on campus.”

Lofton played for the former Waycross College from 2009-2011 and helped lead the Swamp Foxes to the Region XVII Tournament Championship and a berth in the NJCAA Tournament. Following graduation, Lofton played for Albany State University and led the team in assists his senior season.

Before returning to SGSC, Lofton was an assistant basketball coach at Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., and was a basketball trainer for Go-Hard-Training in Albany, Ga.

“I love being back where it first started for me,” said Lofton. “Now that I’m coaching here, I appreciate the daily grind that much more. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to a successful season.”

Lofton is the fourth player during Baldwin’s tenure in Waycross to return to campus as an assistant coach.
