Helgeland’s game winner lifts Hawks to seventh straight win

Cody Helgeland’s jumper with five seconds left in regulation gave the South Georgia State College Hawks their first lead of the game and extended their winning streak to seven games, defeating the Chattahoochee Tech Golden Eagles, 64-63.
Jovante’ Spivey led the Hawks (12-1, 3-0 GCAA) with 18 points, three steals, and two assists. Helgeland finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. JeVaughn Sanchez rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
The win moves the Hawks into sole possession of second place in the GCAA behind Central Georgia Tech. The team has also received national attention with votes in the latest Top 25 poll released Tuesday by the NJCAA.
The Hawks will try to extend their winning streak Thursday night when they host the basketball team from Fort Benning. Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m.
General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
