Hawks win fourth straight over Summer Hill Academy

Posted on Jan 02, 2014

The South Georgia State College Hawks overcame a slow start Thursday night to win their fourth straight game, defeating Summer Hill Post Graduate Academy, 92-67.

Jovante’ Spivey led the Hawks (9-4, 2-1 GCAA) with 21 points and four assists.  Demontrez Austin finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Ty Bull had 12 points and five rebounds.

“We came out flat tonight, but I’m glad we were able to work through it,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.  “Everybody played, and everybody scored.  You like to have some games like that.”

One of the biggest takeaways from the win, Baldwin said, was Summer Hill’s zone defense.

“They played zone for most of the game, so that gave us a chance to work on some things.   We’re going to see a lot of zone in the next couple of weeks,” said Baldwin.

This was the last non-conference game for the Hawks, who begin a two-game conference road trip Jan. 8 against Chattahoochee Tech and Georgia Highlands College.  The team will return home Jan. 15 to face Gordon State College.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
