Hawks win fourth straight, 110-61

Posted on Nov 11, 2014

The South Georgia State College Hawks extended their winning streak to four games Tuesday night by defeating the Faith Baptist Prep Academy Crusaders, 110-61.

The Hawks (4-0) were led by Jovante’ Spivey’s complete game of 23 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  Cody Helgeland finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, and DeAundray Rhett had 14 points and five rebounds.

The Crusaders held their own against the Hawks in the first half, led by Malik Jordan’s seven three-pointers.  SGSC head coach Cory Baldwin said he was proud of the way his team adjusted defensively in the second half to hold Jordan to one three-pointer and to pull away for the win.

“They (Faith Baptist) shot the ball real well in the first half,” he said.  “That was a good thing, because it helped us work on some things defensively in the second half.”

SGSC will host the Applebee’s Okefenokee College Classic this Friday and Saturday, featuring SGSC, Daytona Basketball Academy, South Georgia Tech, and Tallahassee Community College.  The Hawks are scheduled to play Daytona Basketball Academy at 8 p.m. Friday night and Tallahassee Community College at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
