Hawks Win 2 out of 3 Against Darton

Posted on Mar 23, 2015

This weekend had the South Georgia State College Hawks playing against Darton in three home games, and SGSC won two of those games.

Friday’s game was neck-and-neck as Darton and SGSC both earned runs in the first four innings, but the Hawks hit it big in the fifth with a three-run home run by Steve McLeod that scored Mikal Flores and Blake Chaney. SGSC scored six runs in the fifth inning, and Darton was unable to keep up and ultimately lost. The Hawks won 9-7.

Game one in Saturday’s doubleheader had Cayden Hatcher on the mound. He pitched a shutout game, allowing no runs on two hits and struck out five of Darton’s players. The lone run for the Hawks came on a sacrifice fly by Steve McLeod. The Hawks won 1-0.

Game two on Saturday had Darton take an early lead with three runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second inning. SGSC’s Aaron Moore hit a homer in the fourth inning, and Brooks Timmons hit an RBI single in the fifth that scored Tyler Ammerman, but those two runs weren’t enough to lead the Hawks to a third victory against Darton. The Hawks lost 17-2.

The Hawks are in action at home on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 pm against Andrew College, and they’ll travel to Cuthbert for a double header against Andrew College on Saturday, March 28 before heading to Tifton on Tuesday, March 31 to play ABAC.
