Hawks Sweep Okefenokee College Classic With Win Over Southern Crescent Tech

Posted on Nov 19, 2016

O'Showen Williams had 23 points, and the South Georgia State College defense held its opponent to 31 percent shooting as the Hawks (6-1) defeated the Southern Crescent Tech Tigers 83-58 Saturday afternoon to sweep the Applebee's Okefenokee College Classic.

As has been the case in previous games this season, the Hawks took advantage of a scoring run to break the game open. Leading 17-13 with 13 minutes left in the first half, SGSC went on a 17-4 run over the next 10 minutes to build a 34-17 lead. The Hawks gradually extended their lead for the rest of the game with their biggest being 28 points in the second half.

"The best thing about this year's team is that shooting can pretty much come from anywhere," said head coach Cory Baldwin. "(Zaquavian) Smith injured his ankle during Friday night's game, so he was limited today. We had other guys step up, and that was good."

In addition to Williams, Shaquille Williams had 12 points, and Zaire Cook finished with 11 points. Smith finished the game with six points, all coming from the three-point line.

The Hawks have one more home game before the Thanksgiving break when they host New Rock Prep Sports Academy Monday night at 7 p.m. General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
