Hawks hold off Gordon State to win 15th straight

Posted on Jan 26, 2015

The No. 13 South Georgia State College Hawks won their 15th game in a row Saturday afternoon, defeating the Gordon State College Highlanders, 65-60.

The win didn't come easy, though, due to a successful defensive game plan from the Highlanders.

"They (Gordon) threw the kitchen sink at us defensively, but we did a good job of overcoming the adversity," said head coach Cory Baldwin.  "Cody (Helgeland) hit a big three-pointer for us late in the second half that gave us the boost we needed."

Jovante' Spivey led the Hawks (20-1, 9-0) with 24 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Demontrez Austin was the only other player to finish in double digits with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Saturday's win keeps SGSC atop the GCAA Conference with nine regular season games remaining.  The Hawks travel to Chattahoochee Tech next Saturday afternoon before returning home Feb. 2 to begin a two-game homestand against Albany Tech.  Tip for the Feb. 2 game is set for 7 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
