Hawks defeat East Georgia State, extend conference lead

Posted on Feb 16, 2015

The No. 18 South Georgia State College Hawks put their trademark defense to work in the second half Saturday afternoon to pull away from the East Georgia State Bobcats, 78-64.

“I thought we played as well as we could defensively in the second half, which led to a good half offensively,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.

Jovante’ Spivey led the Hawks with 26 points and five steals.  Daniel Peace had 12 points, six assists, and four steals, while Demontrez Austin finished with another double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak and extended the Hawks’ (23-4, 12-3) lead in the GCAA Conference with three regular season games remaining.  The Hawks return home Wednesday night to face Central Georgia Tech in the final home game of the regular season.  Tip is set for 7 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
