The South Georgia State College Hawks are holding on to second place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association rankings after a 78-71 win over the Albany Tech Titans in Waycross last week.

The Hawks took advantage of the Titans’ slow start and opened a big first half gap. SGSC outscored Albany Tech 39-20 in the first half. The Titans rallied after halftime, putting up 51 points. The Hawks, however, were consistent and withstood the rejuvenated Titan offense.

Jeremy Anderson, a redshirt sophomore from Monroe, had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He added six assists and a steal. Chandler Thomas (sophomore, Veterans) and Trey Callaway (sophomore, Tyler Community College) led the Hawks with 16 points each.

SGSC returns to the court Saturday on the road against Georgia Highlands. The Hawks are 11-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Central Georgia Tech is in first place with a 5-0 conference record. The Hawks have 10 games left, including a February 7 matchup at home against Central Georgia Tech.
