Hawks Basketball Drops Conference Opener To Central Georgia Tech

Posted on Jan 06, 2019

The South Georgia State College Hawks erased a 17-point second half deficit Saturday afternoon, but the Central Georgia Tech Titans still managed to escape Waycross with a 82-78 conference win.

It was SGSC’s (8-7, 0-1) conference opener of the season.

“This was a tough loss to start conference play,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “You never want to lose at home, but I thought we showed grit and fight in the last six minutes and had a shot down two points with eight seconds left. We just put ourselves in a bad spot early, and you have to give them (Central Georgia Tech) credit for that.”

The Hawks trailed 44-37 at halftime and were held scoreless for the first 5:32 of the second half. The Titans built a 56-39 lead before SGSC outscored the Titans 31-16 to trail for the first time by two points late in regulation.

Charles Botchway led the Hawks with 23 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Keyshaun Street had 17 points, and Will Ferguson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Hawks will try to get their conference record to .500 Wednesday night when they host Andrew College at 7 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
