Hawks Basketball Defeats Hope Christian, Off To 3-0 Start

WAYCROSS – South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team won its third straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Hope Christian Post Graduate Academy 99-48.

The Hawks (3-0) utilized a balanced scoring attack, led by Jalen King and AJ Spencer with 13 points each. Spencer grabbed nine rebounds and had two assists. Rounding out the top scorers were Jayce Moore (12 points, five assists, four steals) and Bryce Brown (11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals).

Defensively, the Hawks forced a total of 33 turnovers, held Hope Christian to 32 percent shooting and only one three-pointer.

Saturday’s win follows victories over New Rock Prep (105-74) and Action Sports Academy (100-47). SGSC has averaged outscoring its opponents 101-56 over its first three games.

The Hawks will continue their abbreviated non-conference schedule Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Douglas against Reinhardt University (JV). The two final non-conference games are scheduled for this Thursday (Feb. 4) and Saturday (Feb. 6) in Waycross against Edward Waters College (JV) and Combine Academy, respectively. Thursday’s game tips at 7 p.m., and Saturday’s game tips at 4 p.m.

SGSC’s regular season schedule was shortened to 22 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free. Limited tickets will be sold for each home game in Douglas and Waycross to accommodate social distancing, and face coverings are required at each site. No game or season passes are available for the 2021 season.

SGSC’s last regular season game is at Gordon State on March 27. The GCAA Tournament is scheduled for April 9-10.
