Hawks Basketball Defeats Central Georgia Tech, Still No. 2 In GCAA Standings

The South Georgia State College Hawks kept their second-place position in the GCAA standings intact Saturday afternoon with a 97-70 win over the Central Georgia Tech Titans.
SGSC (20-6, 9-3 GCAA) shot 57.6 percent from the field in the first half and only missed two free throws (81.8 percent) to build a 49-26 halftime lead. The Hawks stretched the lead to as many as 33 points late in the second half. For the game, SGSC shot 54.5 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from the three-point line. The Hawks’ defense forced a total of 35 turnovers.
Carlos Hart led the Hawks with a complete game of 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Kyric Davis had 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Justin Edmondson finished with 10 points, four assists, and three steals.
SGSC will host Andrew College this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Waycross.
The Hawks remain the number two seed in the GCAA standings with four regular season games remaining. The top four teams will qualify to host a GCAA Tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday, March 7. The GCAA semifinals and championship game will be played March 10-11 at the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round.
General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
