Hawks Baseball Earns Five Weekend Wins

South Georgia State College Hawks baseball played six games over the weekend and early part of the week and racked up five wins, bringing the season total to sixteen wins, six losses.

On Friday the 6th, the Hawks played the first of three games against Georgia Highlands College. Jared Crews was at the mound and only allowed one run off the opposing team. Lake Hart scored both runs for the Hawks, with one of them being a homerun in the ninth inning. The Hawks won 2-1.

Saturday had the Hawks once again playing Georgia Highlands, but this time for a double-header. In game 1, Cayden Hatcher pitched seven strong innings and held off all but one run from Georgia Highlands. The Hawks’ Aaron Moore hit a two-run single in the third inning, and kept the lead to once again win by 2-1.

Game 2 on Saturday had Bryse Buster on the mound, allowing only two runs from Georgia Highlands. The Hawks scored three runs in the third inning, and added three more in the fourth, allowing the Hawks to walk away with a win of 6-2.

Sunday was another double-header for the Hawks, this time against Lake Michigan College. In game 1 the Hawks scored four runs: in the first, Philip Hart hit an RBI single and allowed Chase Morris to score. The Hawks again scored one run per inning in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, but it wasn’t enough. SGSC fell 7-4.

The Hawks rallied for game 2 on Sunday and won 11-1 in six innings. They scored two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Wyatt Petrey, and never looked back: Drew Johns racked up four RBIs on two hits, Brandon Ector earned one RBI that allowed Jared Crews to score, and Kristopher Kirkland earned a double RBI in the fourth inning, and more Hawks hit home in the second, fifth, and sixth, when the game was called.

On Tuesday, the Hawks again racked up an impressive number of runs, this time against West Georgia Tech. Brooks Calvo was on the mound and allowed two runs over seven innings. The Hawks had an impressive start with four runs in the first inning. Tyler Ammerman was a hitting force to be reckoned with, reaching base four times. West Georgia had a mid-game rally in the fourth inning, scoring twice, but the Hawks put that to an end and won 12-2.

The Hawks will be in action against Darton State College in Albany on Tuesday, March 17th at 6pm, again on Thursday, March 19 at home at 6pm, and once more on Saturday, March 21 at home for a double-header beginning at 1pm.
