Georgia Society of CPAs-Waycross Chapter Scholarship Established At SGSC

Posted on Jun 04, 2015

South Georgia State College (SGSC) President Dr. Virginia Carson is pleased to announce the endowment of the Georgia Society of CPAs-Waycross Chapter Scholarship to benefit SGSC students wishing to pursue a career in business. The scholarship was officially established at a recent signing ceremony on SGSC’s Waycross Campus.

“A college education can be a significant investment for many SGSC students and their families,” said Dr. Carson. “I applaud those of the Waycross Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs for their desire to make a long-term investment that will certainly help future SGSC students overcome potential financial barriers to achieve their academic dreams.”

Debra Yonz, treasurer for the Waycross Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, said the scholarship supports the organization’s long-standing commitment to provide financial assistance to students concentrating in accounting or business.

“We are proud to be able to endow a scholarship that will continue this support for years to come,” she said.

In addition to a concentration in business, future recipients of the scholarship must reside in one of the following Georgia counties – Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Ware or Wayne. They may receive the scholarship based on financial need or academic merit and can attend SGSC’s Waycross Campus or Douglas Campus.

The scholarship will be administered by the James M. Dye Foundation on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. Foundation Executive Director Taylor Hereford is excited about the scholarship’s future impact for students.

“The most important part of the Dye Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance to qualified students who wish to attend SGSC,” Hereford said. “Community partners who believe in the Foundation’s work are vital components to executing that mission. I am grateful to the Waycross Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs for its willingness to invest in the lives of future SGSC students.”
