Big second half lifts SGSC to 96-49 win

Posted on Dec 02, 2014

South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team utilized a big second half Tuesday night to win its fourth consecutive game, beating Brewton-Parker College’s junior varsity team, 96-49.

Demontrez Austin’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jovante’ Spivey’s 13 points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals helped the Hawks (9-1) remain perfect during their current homestand.

Daniel Peace (nine points, nine assists, and seven steals) and Tyler Miller (nine points) rounded out the top scorers for the Hawks.

The win sets up an early season showdown Saturday afternoon as the Hawks host No. 23 Georgia Highlands College in their conference opener.  Tip for Saturday’s game is set for 4 p.m.

“They (Georgia Highlands) are big and fast.  They play the same style we do, which is to apply a lot of pressure and push the ball up the floor,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.  “Saturday afternoon should be a lot of fun.”

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
