SGSC Falls to Atlanta Metro
In a back-and-forth battle that featured seven ties and 15 lead changes, the South Georgia State College Hawks lost their conference opener Friday night, falling to the Atlanta Metro Trailblazers in overtime, 74-68.
Metro’s Modrag Minic hit a short jumper with one second left in regulation to force overtime, and the Trailblazers outscored the Hawks in the extra period, 10-4.
“We played our style of game tonight. You couldn’t have asked for much more,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “They (Metro) just made some big plays.”
DeAndre Holmes led the Hawks (5-4, 0-1 GCAA) with 21 points, while Daniel Peace had 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Ty Bull rounded out the top scorers with 14 points, ten rebounds, and two assists.
The Hawks begin a two-game road trip against Albany Tech and the junior varsity team from Shorter University. The team will return home Dec. 17 to face conference foe Central Georgia Tech. Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m.
General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
